Graziella da Gioz

Graziella Da Gioz was born in Belluno in 1957 near Dino Buzzati, the writer’s holiday home. Her father was a farmer and then became a worker; their home was surrounded by meadows and mountains. She spent her childhood playing in the midst of the countryside but she also loved drawing and reading. After qualifying at the Art School in Treviso she attended the Accademia of Belle Arti in Venice and followed Emilio Vedova’s painting courses. She studied the informal (in particular paintings by Wols, Fautrier, Tapies and Morlotti), the naturalistic symbolism by Redon, Giacometti’s drawing and landscapes in Chinese painting. She visited museums in Italy and Europe and took great interest in etching techniques, Vedova’s classes are visited by art historians, artists and museum directors from all over the world; there are discussions on art and politics in an overwhelming Venice made of colours and feeling.
